Training Log Entry For The Week of 03.14.2011

Tuesday 03.15.2011
Decided to meet Terri, Dawn and Vicki out for their 5:00am speed workout this morning. Damn, it is early, but it feels great when I am finished. We did 6x800's today....
8 miles total
Not really what the breakdown was, but it was in the 8:40 pace range.

Great spin class this morning. Dawn did it again..... yep kicked my ass on that last speed set!
Lifted weights after, triceps day.

Thursday 03.17.2011
Met Terri and Dawn this morning for a tempo run on the avenues. These girls amaze me, they just finished a marathon a week ago and are really keeping a great pace on this tempo. Again, 5:00am is damn early, but I like it! Great thing about my job is that I am my own boss, guess who came home today and went back to bed for about an hour after their tempo run? Sorry girls, that is the perks to being your own boss.
Here is what we did today:
8 miles on the avenues
mile 1 - 9:28
mile 2 - 8:48
mile 3 - 8:40
mile 4 - 8:31
mile 5 - 8:23
mile 6 - 8:51
mile 7 - 8:41
mile 8 - 8:40
average pace - 8:45
overall time - 1:10:10:25

Welcome Spring Forward!

I love the sun staying out later, but I hate that it takes the sun forever to come up!

Had a GREAT spin class this morning!
Lifted weights after, today what bicep day.

For not wanting to get up this morning, it ended up being a really good morning.

March 10, 2011 - 4 Year Anniversery

Today is my 4 year anniversery with my wonderful wife Jenny! She will never know exactly how much she has changed my life, and how much she inspires me each and every day!

I have taken this week slow on the running and weights due to working on renovations on our master bathroom. I have not sam due to the new addition on the tattoo (good excuse right?) Today Jenny and I went for a 5 mile run. I love that this is something that we can share as a married couple. It gets us away from the daily grind, if only for awhile. We do some really good talking out there....it's those little moments that matter the most.

We did 5 miles on the trace today.
Total time: 47:18
Pace: 9:28

Training Log

In the gym for the first time this week. Did an easy spin class today (nice change) thanks to Dawn and Terri running a marathon this past weekend! Ended up doing 19 miles during class today. Went into the weight room after to work out my chest.

Taking myself a slow week here. Not sure if it is a good idea, but I feel like I need one.

26.2 Tattoo is 99.9% Complete!

The Journey that Started after St. Jude Marathon 2009

The tattoo is 99.9% finished! This was sitting number 5 and 3 hours later it looks like this! All that I have left to do is go back and get minor touch-up work done to it after it heals. This has been a year and a half of work and I am very pleased with it!

Tattoo Continued.....

Marathon Tattoo Phase 4

I know it has been forever since I have posted anything about my tattoo. I figured since I was going today to get it hopefully all finished up, I would show what was done the last time that I went. If you look back on my older posts, you will see the progression of this tattoo. If I remember right these pictures are from sitting number 4 (that's about 14 hours worth now) of my tattoo work on this piece.

I'll post some more pics of the work that is done today asap!!!!

Missed Swim Again

9:15 a.m.
The alarm goes off at 5:00 this morning, I roll over and immediately turn it off and fall back to sleep. Why is it that I cannot get motivated to swim? If I was getting up to run, lift weights or to go to spin class, I jump (well maybe not jump) out of bed and get ready to go. I guess it is because I just cant seem to get this swimming stuff, and it feels like i never will. I hear from all of these tri guys out there that the swimming was the worst part for them to learn. They all keep telling me to stick with it, and it will come to me.... What I hear them saying is, "blah, blah, blah, blah!" You know like the adults in a Charlie Brown cartoon. It's not that I have bad form in the water, at least that is what I have been told, it's the fact that I can't get this damn breathing down! I mean I struggle to make it 50 meters. That's just plain sad considering I grew up on the beach in Florida surfing my whole life. I mean, swimming on a surfboard is easy. Take that surfboard away and I freak out. Do you think the people in an Ironman would mind if I used my surfboard during the swim? Uugggghhhhhh, I am just frustrated! I am sure it will come in time, I just hate feeling like I am failing at something. If you know me, you know that failing at a sport is not my style!

On the brighter side, I made it to the gym this morning to lift. I did tri's and ab's today.

Think I am going to go run with the wife today and not worry about my speed at all. It's nice to slow down sometimes and just enjoy someones company while I run.

6:00 p.m.
Jenny and I went and did a good 5 mile run today on the Longleaf Trace
Total Time: 47:36
Avg. Pace: 9:31

Lunch Break Run

So I decided this afternoon at lunch to go get a 4 mile run in. I love days like today. This morning I reluctantly got out of bed to go to spin class and ended up feeling great during the class. Maybe even the best that I have felt at a spin class. Then during my run this afternoon, that I was only going to do 4 miles during, I ended up doing 7 miles.
My goal today was not to break any records, but to simply "feel" my pace. I like to try this from time to time. I will run a pace that feels good to me without looking at my Garmin until it beeps at me. That's when I look down to see what the mile was. All I can say is that today blew my mind, I must have been feeling really good! Here is what my run was.....
7 miles on the Longleaf Trace starting at Jackson Rd.
Total Time: 59:46
Avg. Pace 8:32
Mile 1: 9:00
Mile 2: 8:30
Mile 3: 8:30
Mile 4: 8:28
Mile 5: 8:24
Mile 6: 8:26
Mile 7: 8:25
I wish I could hold that pace for 26.2 miles

Spin Class

8:10 a.m.
Had a great spin class this morning at Wesley. Dawn kicked it with some old school music today. I got there a little early so I could get a few more miles in before the class started. Ended up doing 20 miles today. Ready to get out on the open road soon.

Back In The Pool

March 01, 2011
7:05 a.m.

Today I got back into the pool to "try" to swim again. I was pretty sick last week so opted to not swim. It wasn't hard to talk myself out if that. I don't like this swimming thing too much. I just wish I could get it down without feeling like I smoked a pack of cigarettes after doing 50m. Sooner or later it will all click.....I hope.
This is what I did today:
1x50
2x25 with kick-board and fins
4x25
2x25 with kick-board and fins
2x25

Now I am in the gym doing a chest workout. Crazy that I would rather be doing weights than swimming.

1:19 p.m.
I decided to go to the trace for a quick 3 mile run during lunch today. My goal was to have negative splits and keep my last mile under eight minutes.
Here is what I did:
3 miles
Total Time: 24:35
Avg. Pace: 8:12
Mile 1: 8:53
Mile 2: 8:06
Mile 3: 7:35

Pretty good day today, back to work!

Training Log

Monday
February 28, 2011
7:06 a.m.

Just finished a good spin class. 18 miles in 44 minutes. Spin is tough, but love the way that I feel when I am finished. Great way to start the day.
In the gym now lifting. Biceps this morning.

Friday Catch Up

Friday
February 25, 2011

7:34 a.m.
In the gym this morning to do a lot of weights! Today I am trying to get in back, shoulders and triceps all before I go play a little golf. Had a busy week at the office and a wedding to shoot Saturday. I figure that I owe it to myself to take today to myself!

Back At It

Thursday
February 24, 2011

8:00 a.m.
Ok, I had to end up taking two full days off of any workout at all this week! Sucks, but it was much needed. I reluctantly got up yesterday to go to the gym to do a chest workout with the weights. I still didn't feel great and decided to take the rest of the week off from swimming. Chest workout went ok. Still worn out and tired, but glad that I did it. Maybe I'll try a run this afternoon when Jenny gets home from work.

6:00 p.m.
Decided to go for a good slow run with the wife. I like these runs sometimes. It's good for me to run with her and get to talk with her about the day. Sometimes it's really nice to not worry about how fast I am going and to enjoy quality time with my wife. We did 4 miles on the Longleaf Trace today.
Time: 38:27
Pace: 9:37
